Restoring Futures Through Education

Bright Lights Learning Center

Manila, Phillipines

A large group of young Filipino students in matching yellow polo shirts smiles and poses playfully for a group photograph outdoors under a covered area.

The Bright Lights Learning Center provides a school program for people aged between 12 and 20 years who have no opportunity to receive formal education. Established in the slums of Manila, the school’s mission is to bring students to the point where they can attend mainstream schools and colleges. The current principal is a former student who graduated through the Center!

In 2019, Pastor Simon & Cindy visited Bright Lights and were able to speak into the lives of the staff and see the work firsthand. Horizon's support for this ministry began by sponsoring two young sisters (who had no other source of income) to live in the school’s care home so they could continue their education. Since that time, Horizon's support has expanded to the staff and broader student population at Bright Lights - enabling this incredible ministry to change lives one by one through education and the Gospel.

The ministry was started in 2003 by Australian missionaries. It is now overseen by Voice of Grace Australia, which also operates:

  • Threads of Hope, a livelihood project for women that enables them to earn money
  • Care Homes, a safe place for at risk students to live, that takes them away from dangerous and difficult slum conditions.

Prayer & Partner

Please pray for the students, staff and all involved at Bright Lights as they continue to spread God’s word and make a tangible difference in the lives of their community. You can also support this ministry financially through our giving program.

Building Faith & Community in the Philippines

John & Christine Carby

Siargao, Phillipines

A smiling family of four, a mother, father, and two young daughters, pose closely together for a studio portrait against a plain dark background.

John and Christine Carby, along with their daughters, are ACCI missionaries to Siargao Philippines.

The Carby’s moved to Siargao nearly 10 years ago to establish Nissi Christian Academy. They also run various projects to help them connect with the local community in Siargao, such as a English language church service each week. While Christine spends much of her time helping to lead Nissi, John has connected with the local surfing community which has opened incredible doors across the nation of the Philippines to share the gospel.

Two young boys in blue shirts sit at a light blue table in a classroom, intently reading a picture book together about a little bear.

Nissi Christian Academy caters for more than 200 students in grades K-8. Students from the local community attend the school and learn across all key curriculum areas in an accredited school setting. Students also learn about the love of Jesus. As funds allow, the school is planning to add extra grades in future years.

Reaching the Next Generation in Indonesia

Leighton & Grace Gallagher

Malang, East Java, Indonesia

A family of five, two adults and three children, smile for a photo while wearing colorful traditional Indonesian batik clothing indoors.

Leighton and Grace Gallagher, along with their children Abigail, Josiah, and Isaac, are missionaries serving in Malang, East Java, Indonesia.

In 2024, the Gallaghers planted Waypoint Community Church, with a vision to become a hub for church planting, leadership development, and community outreach. Waypoint is already serving the local community and reaching university students and young adults — providing a space where they can explore faith, grow in relationship with Jesus, and be equipped to lead in their families and communities.

Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, home to over 242 million Muslims, making up nearly 90% of the population. Malang itself is a major university city, with more than 60 universities. This creates a unique opportunity to share the gospel with students who may be hearing about Jesus for the first time.

A smiling family of five, with two parents and three young children, pose for a selfie in front of a small waterfall and lush green plants.

Leighton and Grace’s journey began when they met in Indonesia as teenagers — Grace, an Indonesian citizen, and Leighton, a missionary kid. Their shared passion for cross-cultural ministry and deep love for the Indonesian people continues to shape their mission as they serve together to reach the next generation with the hope of Jesus Christ.

Living on Mission

Local, Regional & International Missions

Horizon believes in spreading the Gospel in our local community, our region and across the globe. To support this we are committed to ensuring that at minimum a tithe of all giving to the church is invested directly into missions work in Australia and beyond. As part of this every year we provide gifts of support to local, regional and international missions and pastors in addition to our regular missions support above.

Please continue to pray for this important work. If you would like to contribute financially you can do so here.
